Global Voices, Global Visions: A Core Collection of Multicultural Books (1995 Edition) ReviewGLOBAL VOICES, GLOBAL VISIONS is a highly useful reference book for anyone seeking information about multi-cultural literature. Edited by Lyn Miller-Lachmann, this book is divided into 15 different sections in the Table of Contents. Each section is devoted to a cultural group in a specific area of the globe, such as the first section of the book, which is U.S. African-Americans. This is followed by U.S. Asian Pacific American; followed by U.S. Latinos and U.S. Native Americans. The remaining sections of the book refer to Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and so on. The book is thus very thorough and inclusive.
Each geographic section begins with a scholarly overview of the literature produced by that ethnic group within that region. Then, there are book reviews of perhaps every literary work pertinent to that section. The reviews range from less than half a page long, to almost one page long for more prominent literary works, such as those by Nobel Prize winners and other top authors. These reviews are accompanied by full book information: full title, author, publisher, publication date, number of pages, etc. The organization within each section is easy to follow and helpful.
Overall, I recommend this book as an excellent addition to any library, either at home or cities, schools, or other institutions. It is a great aid to scholars and other researchers as well as to everyday readers who want to savor the vast, diverse literatures that have been created on our planet.Global Voices, Global Visions: A Core Collection of Multicultural Books (1995 Edition) OverviewWith the increasing realization that we are members of a truly global community comes great interest in the works of minority authors and scholars around the world.
